Mara Wilhelm is a Chicago-based potter whose work explores the intersection of beauty, utility, and everyday life.

A practicing artist for more than two decades, Mara holds a Bachelor of Studio Art from St. Olaf College and works from a community studio in the heart of Chicago. Working exclusively on the potter’s wheel, she has developed a deeply honed practice rooted in thoughtful design, natural materials, and the quiet beauty of everyday objects.

Inspired by the balance of urban energy and natural beauty that defines life in Chicago—the City in a Garden—Mara creates pottery that is simple, purposeful, and meant to be lived with. Mugs, vessels, trays, and other everyday forms are approached with an artist’s eye for proportion, texture, and how an object will exist in someone's hands and home.

Her work has an effortless quality, but that simplicity is earned through years of refining her eye, honing her craft, and developing a personal standard for beauty and function. Mara is drawn to objects that feel natural and uncomplicated while still carrying a quiet sense of intention.

Her work has been commissioned by collectors and clients across the Midwest.
